After years of working in finance and crypto, I’ve come to realise that many people who call themselves traders or investors are actually just crypto dummies, and I don’t mean that as an insult. I mean, they have no idea how to read charts (technical analysis) or understand market news (fundamental analysis), yet they’re hoping to become crypto millionaires overnight. The truth is, yes, even a crypto dummy can get lucky and make a big profit once in a while. But if you want to win consistently and grow your money over time, there are some key things you have to learn to stay in the game.

In this blog post, I’m going to show you five powerful tips that can help you go from being a crypto dummy to a confident pro in no time. These tips are not just helpful, they’re essential. The first one is super important… but trust me, by the time you get to the seventh, you’ll see it might just be the most important of them all!

Some of the tips I’ll be sharing here are actually excerpts from my book Crypto Made Simple: Master the Basics in Just 14 Days. The best part? You can currently purchase the book at a 50% discount on my personal sales page. (Heads up, the discount isn’t available on Amazon due to their tax policies.) Link to Amazon Page

Without wasting any more time, let’s dive right into the five tips that can turn you from a crypto dummy into a crypto pro, fast!

1. Time Spent in the Market is More Important than Trying to Time the Market.

When I first got into crypto, one of the most important things I had to learn was this: it’s not your job to predict every move in the market. I used to think I had to figure out exactly what buyers and sellers were doing at every moment, but that’s not realistic.

Yes, there’s a part of technical analysis that deals with buying and selling pressure, but in the bigger picture, what matters more is taking time to understand how the market works.

Ask yourself:

  • What affects the market in the long term (like Bitcoin halving or new regulations)?
  • What moves the market in the short term (like Elon Musk tweeting or news hype)?
  • What terms do people use?
  • How do tokens behave when they go up or down?

These are the questions that helped me shift from being a crypto dummy to a smarter investor. One thing I did early on (and still do) is spend hours studying charts, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and even meme coins. I’d look at how they moved, what triggered rallies, how long they took to bounce back, and whether news or influencers played a role.

Let me share a quick story:
I once bought a token, and soon after, it crashed, dropping 10x below my entry point. Most people would’ve panicked and sold. But I held on because I had studied enough to know that big rallies often come with big drops. I waited, and not only did the token recover, but it went up another 10 times from where I bought in. That’s almost a 100x from its lowest point!

The key is not guessing the market. The key is understanding it well enough to recognise your moment and remain confident when it arrives.

2. Start Trading Spot before you move on to perpetual or futures trading.

Now, if you don’t fully understand some of the terms I’m using, don’t worry. In my book, Crypto Made Simple: Master the Basics in Just 14 Days, I break down all the key terms and concepts in a way that’s easy to understand. And the best part? Let’s talk about spot trading vs. futures trading for a moment.

  • Spot trading means you’re buying and actually owning the crypto in your wallet, it’s yours.
  • Futures or perpetuals mean you’re just trading the price movements, betting whether the price will go up or down.
  • Leverage trading lets you multiply your buying power, but it also multiplies your risk.

And here’s the cold truth: “Studies show that less than 20% of day traders end up profitable over time, and in high-risk markets like crypto, the number is likely even lower.

Spot trading is safer for beginners. It gives you room to learn without blowing up your account. You can hold through dips, learn patience, test your emotions, and build confidence. As I mentioned earlier, I held steady through a massive dip, and because I had done my homework, I made significant gains later.

Here’s my personal strategy:
Start with spot trading. Make your mistakes, learn the ropes, and grow your confidence. Then, if you must, use some of your profits to test futures or leverage trading, not your entire capital.

Even with my experience, I have only recently started leveraging trading, and I’m still only using a small portion of my money. Protecting your capital is the smart move.

3. Get a mentor, buy a paid course, or follow someone who is an expert in the field.

Let me make this super clear: you’re going to spend money in crypto. The only difference is where you spend it and how much it will cost you.

You’ll either:

  • Lose money by giving profits to people who’ve already paid the price to learn through courses, mentorship, and experience, or
  • Spend a small amount upfront to learn the correct way, reduce mistakes, and grow faster.

There’s no skipping the price of education, you either pay in losses or pay to learn. And the sooner you choose the learning path, the better.

Let’s be honest, why invest $1,000 in crypto when your knowledge is worth less than 10% of that? If you’re lucky enough to meet someone generous like me, you’ll only spend 1% of that on a book like mine that can fast-track your journey.

I learned the hard way. I had a mentor, a busy but brilliant crypto investor, who met with me once a week to teach me the psychology of trading. Sometimes he didn’t show up, and I had to wait till the following week. But I kept showing up. I was hungry to learn. And I didn’t rely on him alone, I did my research and studied like crazy.

The good news? My mentor even contributed to my book, Crypto Made Simple: Master the Basics in Just 14 Days. That means you’re not just learning from me, you’re learning from someone who’s made huge money in this space. (Below is a direct message we exchanged.)

And hey, even if you think I’m just trying to get your money, that’s fine. Don’t buy my book, buy someone else’s. Just make sure you’re learning hard and investing in your growth before you invest in the market.

If I had $100 to invest, I’d spend $40 learning first. This book costs a fraction of that – your smartest first step into crypto – SilverCoin

4. Install the X app as fast as you can

One of the biggest game-changers in my crypto journey has been joining strong communities, and no platform has a stronger crypto community right now than X (formerly Twitter).

Honestly, some of my most profitable trades came from leads I found through crypto communities or influencers on X. But here’s the truth: while a great community can help you grow fast, a bad one can also drain your wallet.

There’s a trick to navigating X:
Many influencers don’t care about you. They hype up tokens just to dump them on their followers or promote scam projects for a quick payday.

That’s why I’m not going to tell you who to follow. Instead, here’s what I’ll say:

  • Follow people who put their money where their mouth is.
  • Join communities with real identities or strong brand reputations.
  • Look for a track record, do they consistently promote legit, valuable projects?

X is a marketplace full of noise. Everyone has something to say, but not everyone is worth listening to. Choose your circle wisely. And the moment you spot anything shady, unplug immediately.

In crypto, the right community can save you, but the wrong one can wreck you.

5. There is always an opportunity in the market

The total value of the cryptocurrency market fluctuates between $1 trillion and $4 trillion, depending on whether it’s a bear or bull market season. That’s massive, and it tells me one thing: even the bad days aren’t so bad.

In fact, I have this funny belief…
Maybe there are no “bear markets” at all, just seasons where only the smart investors are buying, and seasons where the crowd of untrained traders rushes in.

If that clicked for you, then you already understand the mindset of a winning crypto investor.

Here’s the truth:
When others are panicking and dumping their tokens, that’s your opportunity to accumulate. In the long run, those who quietly stack quality tokens during the “bad” seasons are the ones who win big.

Don’t let losses crush your spirit. My coach always used to tell me:

“Don’t worry, another opportunity is just around the corner.”

And guess what? He was right, every single time.

I’ve seen my coach make incredible gains that left me speechless. But he also shared stories of painful losses, the kind that would’ve made me a millionaire if they were profits. Still, he never quit.

So here’s my advice:
If you’ve missed a big opportunity or lost money, don’t panic. Just get back in the trenches, study harder, trade wiser, and stay consistent. And with God’s help, one day you’ll be sharing your own success story with your mentees and community, too.
